30+ Years Celebration

Norwich Speakers’ Club celebrates 30+ years with January Open Night

Why not make public speaking your New Year’s resolution? Norfolk’s longest running public speaking club is hosting a free public event at Harford Community Centre on 19th January that’s open to all experience levels.

Norwich Speakers’ Club, which is affiliated with the global organisation Toastmasters International, is celebrating more than 30 years of helping people in Norfolk to overcome public speaking fears, sharpen presentation skills and increase their confidence. The evening will be fun, relaxing and a chance to socialise with friends old and new.

Club President Sue Eastman invites guests to a special open night where they will experience prepared speeches, Table Topics™ (impromptu speeches) and evaluations. Guests are welcome to participate or sit back and enjoy the evening with no pressure to speak. The event is open to people with no prior experience with public speaking.

A free buffet spread, grazing platters and refreshments will be available throughout the evening (supplied by Henry’s kitchen, which is run by Mel Benns and the outside catering arm of Henry’s Coffee Shop & Kitchen in Cromer). Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options will be available.

Sue Eastman said “Norwich Speakers’ Club was founded in 1992 and we’re fortunate to have a large and active membership. After postponing our anniversary due to restrictions, we’re delighted to celebrate in our new venue at Harford Community Centre. This is a special milestone for our club and we’ll make sure everyone has a fun evening.”

“We pride ourselves on being a friendly and inclusive group,” Sue Eastman added, “We have members of all ages and walks of life, all with a variety of goals and aspirations. Our club provides a friendly, encouraging, non-judgemental and uplifting atmosphere. The collective support from both members and other guests in attendance undoubtedly contributes towards members’ developing their skills and ultimately achieving their personal goals.”

“If you become a member of Norwich Speakers Club, we also offer education and mentoring to develop your public speaking. Whether you would like to build your confidence in public speaking or simply take on a new challenge for 2023, we’ll make you feel more than welcome. Becoming a member of Norwich Speakers’ Club is where so many life-changing journeys begin.”

Russell Eden, Vice President of Education, said: “Members can access an educational programme called Pathways where they can choose from eleven styles of speaking – from inspirational to humorous – and progress along a structured path to reach their potential.”

Anita Martin, Vice President of Membership, said: “New members are never thrown in at the deep end.
